Judicial Philosophy

Many folks have neither the time nor the resources to appeal their case, thus what takes place in District Court is crucial and it’s important that judges take the necessary time “to get it right”.

My values are simple: Impartiality, Fairness, and Consistency. Hearing the facts while patiently affording parties an equal opportunity to be heard, in my courtroom all will be treated with the respect and dignity each deserves.

Applying the law as written, I will uphold the Constitution and will not create rights where none exist. I want to be your newest elected District Court Judge in Wake County.

I would be honored to serve, and I humbly ask for your Vote!

About Brian

Brian is a “roll-up-your-sleeves” guy and always eager to work. Those who know him say confidently that he is authentic – who you see is who you’re going to get!

Growing up the youngest of three in a working middle-class family, his parents taught him the importance of giving your best and having integrity. Though neither his Mom nor Dad ever obtained a college degree, they nonetheless passed on a priceless gift which he still carries today – a desire to work hard and serve ordinary people. He enjoys coaching his kids’ youth athletic teams, spending time with family, serving at his church and watching college athletics. In addition, he loves sipping on a good cup of coffee and is on an endless quest to find the best chocolate chip cookies around!

If you’re up early, you’re likely to run into him at the local YMCA for a morning workout before starting the day.

Qualifications

District Court is both extensive and diverse. As a result, not just anyone is qualified to be a District Court Judge! Whether it’s your untimely Speeding ticket, your child’s Underage Possession of Alcohol citation, your co-workers’ embarrassing DWI, your neighbors’ nasty Child Custody case, your brother’s Misdemeanor Marijuana case, or your own Divorce, Brian has represented numerous clients facing these (and countless other) situations. He has tried a variety of Criminal and Civil Cases, such as DWI’s, Trespassing, Assault, Possession of Marijuana, Possession of Drug Paraphernalia, Child Custody, Domestic Violence charges (Criminal and Civil), Child Support Enforcement and Probation Violations, among others.

He has the relevant Hearing and Trial experience in the following:

  • District Criminal Court
  • District Civil (Family) Court
  • Domestic Violence Court (Criminal and Civil)
  • Child Support Enforcement Court
  • DWI Court

In addition, he has past and present experience at tackling issues and making difficult decisions in a non-partisan manner. First, he served three years here on the Wake County Board of Elections, with his final year as Chairman. Wake County has the largest voter registration roll in North Carolina. Most of the time the Board unanimously agreed on issues; however, even when they did not always see eye-to-eye, he was told by both Republicans and Democrats how they appreciated his demeanor and approach when conducting public business affecting the voters of Wake County. Second, he has also served as a high school and youth football official in North Carolina, so he is well-acquainted with pressure, intensity and impulsive comments made in emotional moments. In short, he knows how to take criticism without compromising his own independent judgment.  As District Court Judge, his approach will remain unchanged!
